A New Spin On Apples – A Healthy Snack You And Your Horse Will Love!…

…And if your dog is anything like mine, then they’ll love it too! 😉

I set out this week to really make my goals of eating right and exercising a reality, I’ve been saying it for a long time, but I really need to buckle down and make it happen!

So the printer was fired up, recipes where found, and delicious healthy food started to come into existence! The first of which was Oven Dried Apples. I don’t have a dehydrator so when I saw this recipe I was quite happy, it was an experiment since I wasn’t sure it would work, but it did, and very well indeed.

I also found a collection of recipes for drying just about every fruit you can think of in the oven, and I will share those recipes as I test them out. So here is the first…

Oven Dried Cinnamon Apples

  • 1 *Apple (of your choice) sliced into very thin pieces (a mandoline would be great but I used a bread knife)
  • A “sprinkling” of lemon juice (optional)
  • A Pinch of cinnamon (on each piece, also optional)
  • Splenda or other sweetener of choice (optional, I didn’t add it in either batch)

Preheat oven to 225F, place apple slices on a cooling rack set inside a baking sheet (or parchment paper).

Sprinkle one side of apple with cinnamon or whatever else you choose, and bake in oven for 1 hour. Turn over after the hour is up, sprinkle again, and bake for another hour. (until lightly browned)

Store in an airtight container, or eat immediately.

Serve the cores and leftovers to your horse (or dog!) 😉

*Add more apples for a bigger serving, slice apples as indicated in photos.
